Panthers vs Falcons : You can hit Carolina with a hurricane, but you can’t keep the football down. That’s what Panthers fans are hoping, anyway. Despite the historic storm, the team is in action Sunday: It’s the Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers in Atlanta.
The Falcons and Panthers both have high hopes this season. Consider their power rankings in the AP Pro32 ranking: Panthers No. 8, Falcons No. 10. Atlanta beat Carolina in their last meeting last season. Atlanta struggled in their 2018 season week 1 game, however, losing to the Eagles 18-12 in a mistake-prone game. The Panthers started strong, beating the Cowboys 16-8.
Atlanta is home for NFL week 2, however, and that’s why oddsmakers have them slated almost a touchdown favorite.
It’s an early-season battle for the NFC South, and Atlanta understands the importance for the playoffs. The Falcons made the 2017 playoffs with a 10-6 record despite finishing third in the division behind New Orleans and Carolina.
Atlanta’s 2018 schedule is comprised of four NFC East and four AFC North opponents, games against the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals as well as their six games against their three division rivals.
The Falcons (0-1) will square off against the first NFC South rival Sunday when the host the Carolina Panthers (1-0) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A 1 p.m. ET kickoff is scheduled.
